Macie Rollins

Macie Rollins is a multidisciplinary artist based in Virginia Beach, VA, working primarily with hand-tufted textiles and sculptural fiber work. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from Old Dominion University in 2024.

Rollins draws inspiration from artists such as Karim Rashid, Judy Pfaff, Peter Saul, and Henri Matisse. With a foundation in abstract art, her playful creations invite a multisensory exploration of textures, colors, and narratives that extend beyond confines of the traditional frame. Her practice centers on experimental material use, combining bold color, texture, and sculptural forms with an energetic and playful visual language that moves between painting, sculpture, and textiles.

In Rollins work, tufted fiber functions as both a design-driven and sculptural medium for creating bold, contemporary compositions. Fiber surfaces become graphic elements. Soft textiles become rigid structure. Familiar materials are shifted into new roles, bringing design, textile, and sculpture into a shared visual space. Her works are playful, bright, and layered, reflecting the intensive planning and hands-on exploration behind each form. Through this, Rollins expands tufting beyond flat surface into more dimensional and spatial forms, positioning fiber as a contemporary material that can be bold, sculptural, and expansive—far beyond what it is typically expected of the medium.
