MACIE ROLLINS
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Virginia Beach, VA, working primarily with hand-tufted textiles and sculptural fiber. I earned my BFA in Painting and Drawing from Old Dominion University in 2024.
My practice treats fiber as an open-ended & sculptural medium for exploration. Soft textiles become illuminated sculptures. Fiber surfaces become graphic elements. Fiber extends beyond the wall, merging with acrylic, light, and constructed frameworks.
I like to explore what happens when tufted fiber is no longer treated as the final object, but as a material within a larger composition. Instead of limiting it to rugs or wall hangings, I use it to build sculptures, lighting, furniture, handbags, dimensional installations, and works that blur the boundaries between categories.
What began as rug-making quickly evolved into an ongoing process of asking, "What else can this material become?"
My work is meant to be bold, playful, and eye-catching—expanding the language of two-dimensional practice while challenging what materials are expected to do.
